The sun has been out in Jackson and it’s been SO GOOD for my heart. For my mental health. I prepped a bit (wow! preparedness for a show? wild.) for my weekly Sunday show on KHOL. I found this cover that Sasami just put out…
I loved it so much. I loved the interview. I realized it’s Mental Health Awareness month and I ended up talking about my mental health a lot more than I was planning to on my show. And you know what? It felt great! Talking about it… into the void… really helped me. I had a few friends text me, thanking me. I also had the phone ring and picked it up. It was a man who didn’t give me his name, but said, “I just wanted to call you and thank you for the theme of your show tonight. My wife is a mental health therapist in town and we’re both really enjoying the show.” It was so sweet. I told him thank you for thanking me, we both kind of rambled in our own ways and then he said, “Alright, well, we love you, bye.”
It was so sweet and funny. I wondered if it was an accident—to say, “love you, bye.” Or if he meant it. I dunno. I just love the power of public radio and vulnerability.
So I’m keeping this episode free for all. AGAIN. It’s not a crazy-good episode or anything, but if I’m gonna talk about my mental health in such an honest way, I’m not about to paywall that. We gotta make it worth it!
Resources I talk about in the show:
988: a suicide crisis hotline.
Anxiety Is Watching Me: Doechii’s hub to talk about anxiety struggles.
I love you. Thank you for being here. Thank you for listening.
